About Us

The Northern Illinois Human Resources Council (NIHRC) is a proud chapter of the Illinois Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), established on January 1, 2023 through the merger of two exceptional chapters: Northern Illinois SHRM (NISHRM) and the Northwest Human Resources Council (NHRC).

NISHRM served communities along the North Shore—including Evanston, Northbrook, Deerfield, Lake Forest, Gurnee, and Waukegan—while NHRC represented key Northwest suburbs like Arlington Heights, Roselle, Schaumburg, and Hoffman Estates. The merger brought together decades of experience, leadership, and community engagement to form one unified and impactful chapter.

Today, NIHRC continues to grow as a vibrant, inclusive community of HR professionals across Illinois, welcoming members at all career levels and from any city in the state. Our mission is to connect, support, and inspire HR leaders through professional development, networking opportunities, and resources that help elevate the practice of human resources.
